GTA 6 Gets Its First Major Gameplay Showcase: What Rockstar Revealed
On August 27, Rockstar Games finally showed fans what they've been waiting years for: a major official gameplay video for Grand Theft Auto VI. Titled An Extended Look, the presentation runs about 26–27 minutes. All footage was captured directly from a PlayStation 5, giving us a much better idea of how the new GTA will look and feel.
And this is no short trailer with pretty staged scenes. Rockstar showed off shootouts, chases, heists, the everyday lives of Jason and Lucia, the massive world of Leonida, and a ton of details we previously had to piece together from individual screenshots.
Real Gameplay, Not Just Another Trailer
The main event of the showcase was Rockstar's first demonstration of real GTA 6 gameplay on a large scale. The video kicks off almost immediately with action: Jason and Lucia head to a meeting that quickly turns into a shootout.
The smooth transitions between cutscenes and regular gameplay are particularly impressive. The game tries hard not to pull the player out of the action, so even moving through buildings and short conversations feel like part of a seamless process.
Shootouts feature more expressive animations for taking cover, firing, and character interactions. Lucia reacts to the situation on her own and uses cover while the player controls Jason.
Jason and Lucia Are the New Stars of GTA
Much of the video is dedicated to the relationship between the two protagonists. Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos don't just look like crime partners, but a real couple who are constantly interacting with each other.
Rockstar shows them not only during heists. There are scenes in their apartment, car rides, conversations, relaxing together, and ordinary everyday moments. This makes the characters feel much more alive than many from previous games.
That said, the criminal side of their life hasn't gone anywhere. Almost any calm event can end in another shootout or chase.
Chases Are Even More Epic Now
One of the most spectacular parts of the presentation is a car chase with the police. Rockstar showed shooting from a moving car, collisions, pursuit by helicopters, and vehicle destruction.
The video also features the six-star wanted system, familiar to fans of the older games. The police act much more aggressively and actively deploy various types of vehicles.
Special attention is paid to car culture. Vehicles look more detailed, and their use becomes an important part of the world itself. The showcase features different car communities, races, modifications, and various ways to steal vehicles.
Vice City Has Become Much More Alive
If GTA V was mostly associated with Los Santos and its surroundings, GTA 6 is betting on a much more diverse world.
The video shows Vice City, but players will also be able to explore other parts of the fictional state of Leonida. On screen, we see urban districts, the coastline, swamps, roads, small settlements, and natural areas.
What's more, the world looks alive even when the player isn't on a mission. The streets are full of people and cars, various events happen, and the environment constantly changes depending on the time of day.
There's More to Do in GTA 6 Than Just Crime
The new video shows that Rockstar continues to develop the idea of a world where players can do more than just story missions.
The showcase briefly features:
- Basketball
- Diving
- Boat rides and watercraft
- Nightlife entertainment
- Races and car activities
- Various mini-events
- Exploring the city and natural areas
Some activities are shown for just a few seconds, so the full list of things to do in GTA 6 is sure to be much larger.
Rockstar Seriously Upgraded the Detail
Perhaps the visual aspect is what stands out most when watching the Extended Look.
The game was recorded on a standard PlayStation 5, not some special demo PC. Yet Rockstar shows incredibly detailed faces, hair, clothing, cars, and interiors.
Vice City looks especially good at night. Neon signs, reflections, building lighting, and a huge amount of detail create the feeling of a real metropolis.
The daytime visuals are no less impressive: sunny streets, palm trees, water, swamps, and dense vegetation make Leonida completely different from Los Santos.
The Game Launches This November
After its delay, GTA 6 is now officially set to launch on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC version has not been officially announced at this time.
The Extended Look showcase was a major moment for Rockstar. After years of waiting, players finally saw not a staged trailer, but what GTA 6 will actually look like during gameplay.
And judging by these 26 minutes, Rockstar clearly has no intention of limiting itself to just an improved version of GTA V. A more alive world, detailed characters, new mechanics, epic chases, and the relationship between Jason and Lucia make GTA 6 one of the most anticipated games of 2026.
The main question now isn't what GTA 6 will be like, but just how massive the game will be at launch.
