Major Game Releases of October 2026: What to Play This Fall

October 2026 promises to be one of the busiest months of the gaming fall. After a powerful September, the industry isn't slowing down: players can look forward to new entries in iconic franchises, major action titles, horror games, RPGs, racers, and long-awaited returns of beloved series.

We've gathered the most notable October releases for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 — from dogfights and space races to brutal firefights, dark adventures, and big RPGs.

ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE

  • Release Date: October 2

  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S

A new installment in the legendary air combat series from Bandai Namco and Project Aces. ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE takes players to the year 2029, when the Federation of Central Usea comes under attack from a swift invasion by the Republic of Sotoa.

The protagonist is a pilot who joins the crew of the aircraft carrier Endurance, which has become a refuge for military personnel and refugees. Gradually, he must reclaim not only his place in the sky but also the name of the legendary ace, Wings of Theve.

The core of the game remains large-scale aerial battles. Players will have access to various combat aircraft, and they'll face enemy aces, heavy machinery, and powerful superweapons. The developers have also placed a big emphasis on weather conditions and environments, which become integral parts of the dogfights.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer

  • Release Date: October 6

  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S

The Star Wars universe gets an unusual addition in October — the fast-paced arcade racing action game Star Wars: Galactic Racer. The game combines classic racing with adventure elements and sends players to a galaxy far, far away, where speed is the ultimate weapon.

The project features a single-player campaign and multiplayer competitions. Beyond regular races, players will have access to time trials and various additional challenges.

The unique feature of Galactic Racer is that the adventure isn't confined to the track. Between races, players can explore the surrounding world and interact with various characters. In this way, the project attempts to blend classic arcade racing with an adventure game structure.

Gears of War: E-Day

  • Release Date: October 6

  • Platforms: PC, Xbox Series X|S

Gears of War: E-Day returns one of Xbox's premier shooter franchises to the very beginning of its history. The events take place fourteen years before the original Gears of War, during the legendary Emergence Day — the moment when the Locust horde first erupts from underground.

Players will once again meet a young Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago. Instead of the familiar war with the Locust, the developers portray the first hours of the catastrophe, when humanity doesn't yet grasp the scale of the new threat.

At the center is the franchise's signature brutal action, cover-based firefights, destructible environments, and team play. The campaign focuses on the early events of the war and shows how Marcus and Dom begin their journey.

On consoles, the game is an Xbox Series X|S exclusive, and the PC version releases simultaneously. Gears of War: E-Day will also be available on Game Pass from day one.

Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival

  • Release Date: October 8

  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S

October is practically made for horror, and Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival brings back one of the genre's darkest universes. It's a story-driven first-person survival horror where players must confront Pinhead and the nightmarish world of the Cenobites.

The protagonist, Aiden, gets drawn into a supernatural tale after using the mysterious Genesis Configuration puzzle box. Now he must find his girlfriend Sunny and escape the Labyrinth, all while dealing with a cult that worships the Cenobites.

Players will have to explore dark locations, search for items and clues, solve puzzles, and fight creatures that clearly have no intention of letting the hero leave alive.

Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen

  • Release Date: October 9

  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2

Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen will be one of the major RPG releases in the first half of October. The expanded version sends players back into the vast fantasy world of Dragon's Dogma 2, adding new content and a full-fledged version for the Nintendo Switch 2.

At its heart remains the story of the Arisen — a hero who must confront a dragon and unravel their own destiny. The massive open world allows you to explore settlements, dungeons, and wilderness areas where danger can lurk around practically every corner.

One of the series' main features remains the pawn system. These AI-controlled companions can autonomously participate in battles, assist in exploring the world, and use knowledge gained during the journey.

Valor Mortis

  • Release Date: October 13

  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S

The developers of Ghostrunner are offering a completely new take on the soulslike genre. Valor Mortis transports players to an alternate Europe during the Napoleonic Wars, where historical reality blends with a dark supernatural nightmare.

The protagonist William is a soldier of Napoleon's Grande Armée who died on the battlefield. However, death is far from the end of his story. He returns to life in a world gripped by a mysterious plague, and his own body begins to undergo inexplicable changes.

The gameplay combines a first-person perspective, challenging combat, and supernatural abilities. The hero will have to fight humans and monsters, utilize powers of infection, and gradually uncover the mystery of the catastrophe.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse

  • Release Date: October 15

  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2

The iconic Castlevania series returns with a new story set in Paris of 1499. The city is engulfed in flames, and monsters emerge from the dark alleys.

The main heroine is Rose Belmont — a member of the famous clan of vampire hunters. Armed with the legendary Vampire Killer whip, she must fight her way through the chaos-ridden Paris and confront another threat linked to Dracula.

Belmont’s Curse retains the classic 2D foundation of the series but emphasizes world exploration and a variety of abilities. After defeating bosses, the player gains new capabilities that can be used to access previously unreachable areas.

FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE

  • Release Date: October 22

  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2

One of October's most unusual releases for fans of Japanese RPGs. FINAL FANTASY RESONANCE uses the familiar formula of classic series entries but presents it in a modern HD-2D art style.

Players can expect a new story tied to crystals, ancient powers, and the traditional Final Fantasy struggle between light and dark. At the same time, the developers have prepared many familiar elements of the universe: chocobos, Espers, airships, and other hallmarks of the series.

The battle system is built on turn-based combat, but modern mechanics make it significantly more dynamic than classic RPGs. The HD-2D presentation combines pixel-art characters with 3D environments and modern visual effects.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

  • Release Date: October 23

  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2

At the end of October, a new major entry in Activision's premier military series arrives. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 thrusts players into a world of global conflict that quickly escalates into full-scale war.

The campaign promises to be noticeably more varied in locations and mission types. Players can expect large-scale firefights, covert operations, dynamic chases, and the series' signature cinematic episodes.

But it's not limited to the story campaign. The main reason for players to return will be the updated multiplayer with new maps, weapons, modes, and movement systems. Special attention is given to large-scale battles, where classic firefights are complemented by vehicles and vast arenas.

Phantom Blade Zero

  • Release Date: October 29

  • Platforms: PC, PS5

One of the year's most anticipated action titles will close out October on a spectacularly high note. Phantom Blade Zero is a large-scale action-RPG from Chinese studio S-GAME, built around fast-paced combat, Eastern aesthetics, and a dark world in the wuxia style.

Players will take control of a warrior named Soul — a master of a deadly martial art who finds himself embroiled in a conspiracy after events that almost cost him his life.

The main focus is on the combat system. Battles are built on fast combos, counters, dodges, and the use of diverse weapons. Enemies can attack in groups, so the player must constantly control the space around them.

At the same time, the developers emphasize not only combat but also world exploration, characters, and story elements.

The Wolf Among Us Remastered

  • Release Date: October 29

  • Platforms: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2

Right at the end of October, one of Telltale's most famous narrative games returns. The Wolf Among Us Remastered takes players back to Fabletown — a secret community of storybook characters hiding among the regular residents of New York City.

The protagonist is Bigby Wolf, the sheriff of Fabletown. He must investigate a series of mysterious crimes and gradually uncover the dark secrets of the community.

The main difference between The Wolf Among Us and most modern action games is that here, the number of defeated foes matters less than the player's decisions. Conversations, clues found, and dialogue choices influence the story's progression and relationships with other characters.

The updated version will feature enhanced visuals and modern technical improvements. For fans of the original, it's a chance to return to the noir world of Fabletown, and for new players, it's an opportunity to discover one of Telltale's most unique games.
